Estimating the Shielding Efficiency of an Anechoic Chamber

This paper presents aspects related to the efficient measurement of the screens of a Faraday metal enclosure. Shielding enclosures or shielded rooms were used to protect against radiated electromagnetic threats such as electromagnetic interference, high-altitude electromagnetic pulse, high power electromagnetics including intentional electromagnetic interferences and so on. The function of shielding enclosures for protecting critical equipment and system against high power electromagnetic field is compromised by those apertures on the enclosure. Certain obtained results are presented in the frequency range in which the testing of an anechoic chamber dedicated to tests concerned with the electromagnetic compatibility was performed. The efficiency of the studied screens in the location most prone to field leakages was analyzed. The experimental estimation of the anechoic chamber shielding efficiency was made according to the procedures specified in the IEEE standard STD 299 on the frequency range between 9kHz and 4GHz. The measurements were performed for the anechoic chamber of the Research Institute in Applied Sciences - INCESA within the Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory from Craiova, Romania.
