A Multi-input DC-DC Converter with AC-DC PFC Buck-boost Stage for Hybrid Energy storage Systems

In this paper, a multi-input converter is presented which integrates actively controlled Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) with a front-end AC-DC Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter. The PFC stage is implemented using a bridgeless buck-boost converter. The other DC-DC conversion stages are based on inverting buck-boost topology that uses the same inductors for all modes, namely AC-DC charging, discharging, and regenerative braking. An averaged current mode control algorithm is utilized to manage the input current of the PFC converter and also to control the DC-DC converters. Simulation results validate the converter operation in different modes with a relatively low number of elements.
