Optimization of continental power exchange under the framework of global energy interconnection

The global energy interconnection is a promising way to achieve sustainable use of global energy. A quantitative estimate of inter-continental power exchange can provide helpful guidance for implement of the global energy interconnection. This paper proposes a method based on time sequence simulation technology to optimize continental power exchange under the framework of global energy interconnection. An optimization model is proposed to maximize the global renewable energy power generation with considering the constraints of global power balance, global system spinning reserve, continental transmission capacity limit, unit power generation limit, limits of renewable energy curtailment rate, et al. To cope with the extremely large and complicated global power network, the aggregation method is applied to simplify the global power grid interconnection. The aggregated continental annual wind, solar power and load are incorporated into the optimization model as inputs. Hourly power generation of renewable, fossil, nuclear energy and continental exchanged power are then optimized. Case studies are conducted to obtain the optimal continental power exchange based on the data in 2016, and the influence of inputs on continental exchange power are quantified. Testing results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
