Failures analysis of wind turbines: Case study of a Chinese wind farm

In the last decade, wind energy industry in China has experienced a rapid growth. Up to now, few studies on reliability analysis of Chinese wind farms can be found. In this study, based on the field data of a wind farm in Jiangsu Province of China, the failure and maintenance statistics are classified, and the reliability of main components in the wind turbines is also analyzed. In addition, the effect of weather factors on the reliability of wind turbines, such as wind speed and temperature, is also demonstrated in a qualitative way. The results show that there are major differences in the performance of wind turbines between Chinese homemade and those of foreign countries. It provides good basis for the operating and maintenance of Chinese wind farms.
