The Future of m‐Health: Progress or Retrogression?

This chapter presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. It outlines some of the challenges, likely futuristic scenarios, and trends. It is inevitable that m‐Health will be associated with cellular mobile phone technology for the foreseeable future. To address the issues being continuously debated by global m‐Health communities requires serious revisiting and questioning of the current understanding of m‐Health, replacing it with a new vision that transcends the current status, leading to more successful future m‐Health systems. The chapter discusses some of these potential directions and speculate how m‐Health can be reshaped so that it can evolve from its current interpretation to a truly unique and transformative healthcare innovation concept. It outlines a future vision of m‐Health, focusing on the technological advances and global healthcare challenges and requirements. A robust and secure m‐Health 2.0 open collaborative registry could be an important future development.
