Supercapacitors based energy saving mode of electromechanical elevator's operation

In this paper, an elevator's drive system is thoroughly examined in order to improve its operation, in terms of reducing the energy consumption. Vector control is used for the drive system and the simulation results are compared to a real application's measurements. In order to reduce the total energy consumption of the system, the conventional braking system is replaced by a regenerative braking system, where the energy produced during braking is stored and not dissipated. This energy is transferred back to the DC-bus when there is high energy demand, where Super Capacitors are used as energy storage system. In order to examine the behavior of the above system, a complete simulation model is developed and the results of the simulation are compared to a real application's measurements.
