Evaluating Decision-Making Performance

Evaluating decisions made in the past and learning from what occurred during actual implementation of those decisions, provides organizations with information to prevent repeating past mistakes and focusing more realistically on the means to determine its future. Decisions regarding people performance, whether related to internal staff or outside supporting staffs present a major challenge for those required to make those decisions. Strategic thinking departs from the bureaucratic process of strategic planning that seldom includes an operational plan to fulfil the strategy. Policies and procedures (P&Ps) are a required necessity in an organization; however, rigidly enforcing them can limit freedom-to act and personal initiative. Government regulations, at all levels of government, continue to increase. Corporate governance involves integrating all the substantive resources that allow an organization to satisfy the stakeholders; it involves dealing with multi-disciplinary actions that include organization theory, sociology, economics, psychology, political science, and industrial engineering.
