A Transceiver Using Simplex Plastic Optical Fiber For IEEE 1394

Currently, stepped Index Plastic Optical Fiber (SIPOF) is able to transmit 100 Mbps data stream over loom cable length using a Laser Diode (LD) at optical wavelength of 650 nm (Table 1). Meanwhile, solution for connectivity of 5Om to loom necessary in using IEEE1394 as home network is awaited for a long time.
