Bio-optoelectronical "tongue" for detection of pesticide contamination of water

The Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) interferometric technique is proposed for bio- and chemical sensor systems. The method is based on interferometric detection of phase shifts of the reflected light, caused by a change of the refractive index /spl Delta/n of the tested media under SPR conditions. The sensitivity threshold of the method to /spl Delta/n is estimated as 4/spl middot/10/sup -8/. The SPR-interferometer in conjunction with thin recognition films has been tested to detect the pesticide contamination of water. The SPR-interferometer combined with a multi-channel cell with various binding films was used to design an optoelectronic "tongue" for simultaneous multi- component analysis of liquids.
