Abstract:

Many aspects of the complete transmitter design such as the number and size of RF modules, the number of power supplies, the cooling arrangement, method of combining modules, drive arrangement and, in the case of television, the method of combining sound and vision signals, all require consideration. A transmitter which meets all these requirements can be used without the need for a complete reserve transmitter and is said to possess 'Integral Modular Reserve'. The paper discusses these requirements and describes a design of a solid state FM broadcast transmitter which is based on this philosophy.<>
