Abstract:

The assumption of H.B. Atabek (1961) is applied to the Navier-Stokes equation to solve the problem of two-dimensional unsteady flow in the cochlea of the auditory system. The pressure gradient distribution for cochlear fluid is obtained and then used to develop a new mathematical model for the auditory system. By sampling the space coordinate along the basilar membrane, the partial differential equation is changed into a set of ordinary differential equations which can be solved in the time domain. The transfer function of the auditory model is finally derived using a recurrent method.<>
