FDTD simulation of microwave scattering from a lung tumor

A numerical study using the finite difference time domain method has been carried out to analyze the potential of microwaves for detection of lung cancer. Simulations were conducted using several frequencies for several sizes and locations of a lung cancerous tissue. The tests were conducted by simulating a plane wave impinging on the torso slice, and the analysis of the scattered field showed that frequencies around 3 GHz appeared to be adequate for lung cancer detection.
