Survey of RF Electromagnetic Field Exposure in a Public Health Research Environment

Healthcare environments are immersed in the intensive development of 5G mobile communications, involving a significant increase in the mobile traffic area capacity and density of sources of electromagnetic radiation in a very wide mixture of electric fields of different frequencies. This paper analyzes the signals of different wireless communications systems in 10 locations at a Public Health Spanish reference Research Center, in Madrid, ISCIII, at an outdoor environment. The experimental values of the electric field, obtained with an EME Spy 200 MVG dosimeter were performed with the same conditions and compared for the ten locations between two measurement campaigns. The tree locations with most important exposure to communications systems (Down Links) were selected and analyzed the evolution of results in order to verify regulations concerning the safety of patients, general public and workers in health environment, who often are exposed to the electromagnetic field (EMF) emitted by wireless telecommunications systems with different features and intensities and changes in the structure of radiocommunication services and their physical infrastructure. Most important exposure to LTE B13 (DL), LTE B4 (DL) and LTE B7 (DL) cause relatively higher E/m values, all of them higher levels in the second campaign and in any case do not exceed the ICNIRP reference levels, which remains significantly low.
