High Resolution Bistatic ISAR Images on Airliners

ISAR (Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar) is a technique consisting in illuminating a moving target with a radar system. The motion of the target is used to form a precise image that can provide information on the signature of the target for characterization or identification purposes. ISAR processing is usually done in a monostatic configuration but complementary information can also be brought by bistatic configurations since they allow imaging the same object with different projection planes. This paper presents the results of a high-resolution S-band bistatic imaging measurement campaign of airliners and preliminary analyses of monostatic and bistatic ISAR images obtained from these radar experiments using the covariance matrix on the images’ point cloud.
