Switchboard Health Assessment and Reliability Program™ (SHARP)

Switchgears are main electrical equipment in an electrical distribution and transmission system. There have been failures of this key equipment in the past which have caused safety incidents such as flashover, fire and equipment malfunction which resulted in extensive production loss and equipment damage. These failures can be avoided by early detection of anomalies by applying various condition monitoring methods and early preventive action based on data analytics. SHARP (Switchgear Health Assessment and Reliability Program) is a digital initiative developed to monitor the health of switchgear based on key parameters and an algorithmic logic to determine the operational risk. The application is designed based on typical Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) installation, operational experience, and maintenance practices. It allows plant electrical personnel to monitor the switchgear health via a cloud-based online application and enables them to prioritize corrective action based on individual switchgear risk rating.
