Abstract:

Measurement of in-situ properties of gas hydrates in the laboratory is essential before the extraction of gas from the hydrate reservoirs. We report the measurement of thermal conductivity of methane hydrates using the needle probe as 1.29 W/mK at 4°C at 59 bar and THF hydrate as 0.64 W/mK at 4°C in the silica sand with the initial liquid saturation as 60%. Measured the acoustic wave velocity in the laboratory for THF hydrate as 2676 m/s at 3°C in the silica sand with the with initial liquid saturation of 60%. The results could provide some insights on thermal conductivity, acoustic wave velocity during the formation, and dissociation of hydrates with variation in initial liquid saturations, which would help in gas production simulation tests in the field.
