Development of a Simplified Six-Port Correlator for the 28 GHz Band

Recently, there has been a rapid increase in the demand for microwave and millimeter-wave applications represented by 5G technologies. With the wide use of microwave and millimeter-wave components, there is a great demand for inexpensive measurement instruments. This work developed a simplified six-port correlator (SPC) for vector network analyzers (VNAs) in the 28 GHz band. This simplified SPC measures the magnitude and phase information of a device under test, independently. A noncombined power detection method was used to improve the measurement dynamic range. We demonstrated the transmission properties of a band-pass filter in the 28 GHz band on the simplified SPC. Consequently, in magnitude measurement, the dynamic range of the simplified SPC was over 40 dB.
