A Compact Overmoded Waveguide Test Environment: Investigation of Propagation Behaviour

In this paper, the concept of a compact radar test environment, implemented by an overmoded waveguide wound up into a helical spiral, is investigated. The studies focus on the propagation behaviour in this system. The advantage using overmoded waveguides is the low-loss and low-dispersion propagation of electromagnetic waves inside the test environment. In addition, the propagation can be described mathematically due to the boundary conditions of the waveguide. This ensures precise signal evaluation, suitable for long-distance test environments.
