Design of Planar BPF Based on Hexagonal-Lattice Metallic PhC Structure in 28GHz Band

This paper presents a synthesis design of a multistage planar bandpass filter based on hexagonal-lattice MPhC (Metallic Photonic Crystal) structure in 28GHz band. A computer-aided physical structure tuning technique is applied in the design. Different from the conventional M-matrix synthesis method, in the presented method, the theoretical M-matrix is subdivided into partitioned matrices for the synthesis of sub-circuits to improve the design efficiency. As an example, a 5th-order Chebyshev bandpass filter is implemented. The simulation results of the synthesized filter agree well with the theoretical ones, which validates the proposed filter structure and the design scheme.
