Ultra-Wideband Wi-Fi 6E/5G NR Antenna for Laptop Applications

A printed, ultra-wideband, laptop monopole antenna functioning in heterogeneous networks for Wi-Fi 6E and 5G NR operation is presented. The antenna design occupies a compact size of 7 mm × 17 mm and comprises a branched monopole, an inverted-L shorting strip, and a small parasitic strip. The branched monopole is obtained from inserting a T-shaped slit in a near-rectangular radiating patch to form two resonant branch strips. The monopole is further shorted on the bottom-right corner via the inverted-L shorting strip. With the proposed design structure, the multiple resonant modes can be excited to cover the 2.4 GHz (2400–2484 MHz), 5 GHz (5150–5825 MHz), and the new 6 GHz (5925–7125 MHz) bands for Wi-Fi 6E operation and also the 5G NR sub-6 GHz bands 77/78/79 (3.3-5.0 GHz). In addition, a very wide operating band, ranging from about 3.2 to 11 GHz, is also achieved. The proposed antenna is promising for Wi-Fi 6E and 5G NR laptop applications.
