Capacitive Wireless Power Transfer Through a Saline Medium

This paper presents capacitive wireless power transfer (WPT) through a saline medium, especially focusing on the seawater and the human body. First, it reveals from what conductivity the conductive path becomes dominant. Next, we discuss capacitive WPT (CWPT) under seawater, where conductivity is dominant, and CWPT in the living body, where conductivity is a significant loss. We introduce a coupler design utilizing conductivity in seawater to achieve a high-efficient WPT. For CWPT in the living tissue, its potential from electrode design and SAR is presented.
