UWB Band-Pass Filter with Dual Notched Bands Using Electromagnetic Band Gap Structure

In this paper, a design of ultra-wideband (UWB) band-pass filter (BPF) with a dual-band filtering is suggested for wireless applications. The layout of the design is composed of a rectangular-stub which has been loaded with parallel coupled lines to generate UWB band-pass function. Along with that, an electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) resonator with the rotated E-shaped configuration is applied to create dual notched bands at the target frequencies. The introduced BPF has been designed on a compact Rogers 5880 material with permittivity, ε= 2.2, loss tangent, δ= 0.0009, and thickness, h=1 mm. The introduced design is examined in terms of its fundamental characteristics. It is discovered from the investigated results that the BPF exhibits an ultra-wide bandwidth of 3.1-10.6 GHz. Meanwhile, two notched frequencies were generated at 5 and 8 GHz to suppress and efficiently reduce the interfaces from other systems. Due to its simple schematic and excellent characteristics, the design is a suitable candidate to be applied in UWB wireless networks.
