Coupled vibrational behaviour of CNT reinforced beams with inertial, stiffness and damping adornments

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), a nanotube formed by rolling graphene, has distinctive mechanical, electrical and physical properties that have attracted a great deal of attention over recent years. This has led to the creation of a range of mechanical, electronic and biomechanical devices with carbon nanotubes as the main component. It has also been found that the mechanical properties of different materials can be improved by introducing CNTs as a reinforcement. A considerable amount of work has been undertaken to understand the effect of CNT reinforcements on strengthening different structures. Thus, the current study focuses on furthering the understanding of dynamics of a Euler-Bernoulli clamped-clamped CNT reinforced beam with mass imperfections connected by a spring and damper. The beam is reinforced in the thickness direction with uniformly distributed (UD) and functionally graded (FG) patterns. Using the rule of mixture to estimate the material properties and the Hamilton principle, the equations of motion of the system are developed and solved. The effect of altering the spring stiffness, damping coefficient and mass imperfections on the natural frequencies of the system are investigated in this paper.
