HAND AID: Hand Orthotic Device with Strength Monitoring System

Hand injuries are the most common type of workplace injury. Hand injuries are classified into several types, including cuts, fractures and dislocations, infections, and so on. If not treated properly or if medical attention is delayed, hand injuries can lead to serious injuries that can result in disability. The hand is a sensitive part of the human body. Even a minor injury to the hand may necessitate immediate medical attention, or it may lose function under certain conditions. HAND AID: Hand Orthotic Device with Strength Monitoring System, is a micro controller-based wearable - exoskeleton device for rehabilitation of hand injury. HAND AID is an assistive device that assists occupational therapists in carrying out therapy exercises. To monitor the patient's progress for each therapy session, the device uses servo motors to provide movement and a flex sensor to measure the patient's hand strength. The patient's measured hand strength will then be recorded in the database and graphed for a visual representation of the patient's progress. It can also be used as a form of exercise to keep one's mobility. As an expected output, the device must be able to assess the patient's hand strength in order to identify the patient's condition or situation and provide the necessary exercise. The system was tested for accuracy, dependability, and functionality. The device is expected to accurately identify the patient's hand strength and record it in the database. In terms of dependability, the device is expected to produce progress in terms of the patient's condition. Finally, for functionality, the device should perform all of the programmed exercises at the same time and without error. In terms of dependability, if the patient exercises his or her hand on a regular basis, progress will be visible. It is observed that the device serves its purpose in terms of functionality by providing exercises and recording the patient's progress.
