Portable Indoor Air Quality Measurement System

Poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is one of the sources that is causing health issues which induce multiple irritating or vital symptoms and diseases such as asthma, allergies, and even cancers. Thus, the devices related to personal air quality monitoring is getting more attention in recent era. The existing instruments to measure IAQ are usually expensive and bulky. In this study, a portable and low-cost device to measure IAQ is developed which comprises of two sensors, BME680 and MICS6814. The device is capable of measuring and recording IAQ levels and concentrations of CO, and NH3 continuously, which are considered as hazard gases. The total size of the designed device is 2 cm × 3.2 cm that could be considered as one of the smallest portable air quality measurement devices. Furthermore, it can send the obtained data to user through Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) with a customized smartphone application.
