Real Time Notification Messaging (Using Area Under the Curve) for Diabetes Patients' Management in a Continuous Glucose Monitoring Sensors based Decision Support System

The type 1 diabetes patients treatment and management is improved by portable sensors, specifically of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) miniaturized sensors. This paper presents some results of a joint research project (medical team based in France and computer science specialist in Romania). An important project's outcome is the artificial intelligence based auto-adaptive therapy protocol adjustment. The main focus of this article, after explaining the decision support system's architecture, is to present the numerical approximation for the area under the curve (AUC). Based on the AUC's calculated value the system triggers an event for patients and medical practitioners advertised in real time and the therapy protocol modification. Another key subject presented by this paper is the real time messaging system used for patient's alerting and treatment protocol changes notification.
