3D Printing for Improved Congenital Cardiovascular Pre-Procedural Assessment

8 out of 1000 newborn suffer from a form of congenital cardiovascular disease. Complex congenital cardiovascular diseases require carefully pre-procedural preparation and heart-teams including imagers, surgeons, pediatric cardiologists, intensive-care and neonatal specialists. With the usage of 3D printing, the printing technician should be part of such a team. We report our experience regarding the steps taken in the treatment of an infant with complex congenital cardiovascular malformations requiring multiple surgeries and interventional procedures. The 3D data were extracted from a CT-based DICOM dataset, using commercially available software and printed using locally available material and hardware. Following multidisciplinary meetings, the patient underwent further treatment with good results.
