A Study on the Monitoring Parameters for Power Asset Management of Switchgear

Switchgear is used to protect, energize and isolate power facilities. Usually switchgear comprises a circuit breaker (CB), bus bars, and switches. Reliability of switchgear is an extremely important parameter in operating the power grid. In several countries around the world, switchgear has been used for more than 50years by monitoring the status of components and re-manufacturing. In addition, power asset management is applied to use power facilities economically and efficiently. The lifespan of power facilities is closely related to the environmental and economic aspects. In Republic of Korea, the lifetime of switchgear is considered to be less than 30years, and furthermore, it is not re-manufactured. In this paper, a study on the derivation of monitoring parameters to extend the lifetime of switchgear.
