Nuclear Division Index (NDI) in Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes Exposed to X-Rays and Its Interferences in the Biodosimetry of Medical Personnel Occupationally Exposed to Ionizing Radiation

The response to X-Rays by Nuclear Division Index (NDI) of peripheral blood lymphocytes was performed from a study group of general population. Two cell culture were initiated for each blood sample, being experimentally exposed at doses varying from 0,25 to 3 Gy. The NDI calculated revealed slight correlation to the gender-lower values for women. For occupationally exposed personnel to ionizing radiation, the average values of NDI, analyzed by gender or profession, were not correlated with micronucleus (MN/CBMN) test results. Beside gender, medication or health status related to lower NDI should be investigated, as literature provides.
