Active Sitting as a Factor for Increasing Concentration During Computer Activities

Prolonged work at a computer affects the health and quality of life of employees, as well as their productivity. More and more attention is being paid to the working posture during the performance of their usual activities as a factor to preserve their working capacity. The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of a specific way of sitting - active sitting, on the degree of concentration of persons working at a computer. An experiment was conducted in which 97 participants took a selected tool (Stroop test) twice – using their usual working posture, positioned on an office chair, and creating conditions for active sitting with the help of a stability disc used as an air cushion. The results showed a statistically significant increase in success in solving the test and a decrease in reaction time in the active sitting mode of the participants.
