Hydrocarbon Sweet Spots Detection Using Advanced Inverted Acoustic Approach in Offshore Indus Basin, Pakistan

Pakistan lacks oil and gas resources, and its offshore areas are underexplored. As a result, no commercial oil and gas resources have yet been discovered in offshore areas. The offshore Indus basin's oil and gas resource potential was determined through inverted acoustic seismic data and stratigraphic correlation. Based on extensive inverted results, it has been determined that the area is enriched with unconventional economic hydrocarbon resources with numerous shows of sweet spots. There exist also effective tectonic-lithologic traps with the impacts of structural impacts obvious on seismic profiles. As a result, it is possible to conclude that the offshore Indus basin has viable oil and gas occurrences. There is an urgent need to improve the acquisition and processing quality of seismic data in order to fully harness the offshore Indus basin's hydrocarbon potential. In this study comprehensive review of new technologies required to be focused for indigenous development of seismic data acquisition and processing systems are presented. Strategies required to develop such technologies are crystallized to enhance the accuracy of acoustic inversion-based prediction for offshore oil and gas exploration in Pakistan Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
