Potential enviromental impacts of a digital platform for the mutual assistance management in technological emergencies

Accidents involving hazardous materials such as spills, leaks, fires, and explosions can cause damage to people’s life and health, as well as the environment and the economy. The handling of these types of emergencies can overwhelm the company’s internal response capacity, then it may require the intervention of relief agencies and the activation of collaborative inter-company engineering management strategies. In this research we carry out a literature review that evidences the potential benefits that digital tools and organizations mutual aid can bring to manage disasters. The possible impacts of the application of a digital platform for the management of organizations mutual aid were identified as follows: (i) greater coverage and coordination for the management of mutual aid in dealing with emergencies of technological origin among the actors involved (industry, government and community), (ii) reduction of emergency response times, and (iii) the high energy consumption of servers and the CO2 emissions associated with it, to identify the impacts, a simple methodology to detect the environmental impacts, Scoping, was used.
