Virtual Development and Optimization of High-Definition Headlights

The contribution at hand addresses the issue of the complex and time consuming development that arises from new possibilities, which are offered by matrix headlights and thus the resulting numerous new headlight functions like symbol projections, by virtually assessing and optimizing headlights. Therefore, a real-time capable, idealized virtual prototype is developed with a flexible structure. The structure can be changed during the optimization and simulation to evaluate and optimize the headlights based on a novel cost function, which includes the visual perception, the price of the system and the energy consumption. By that the structure is optimized for different parameters, scenarios and weightings of the individual aspects. For verification, glare-free high beam, marking light and symbol projections are considered as light functions.
