Modified Droop Control Strategy to minimise losses in an Islanded Microgrid

This paper proposes an adaptive droop control strategy to minimize line losses in an islanded micro grid. Conventional droop control strategy focuses on load sharing according to the ratings of different distributed generation (DG) units. In addition to load sharing, droop control also provides inertia to the system and thereby increases stability. However, when DG units are forced to send more current through longer transmission lines, line losses get increased. In this paper a modified droop control strategy is proposed to reduce this losses. Proposed adaptive droop control strategy modifies the droop coefficients in such a way that line losses get reduced. The proposed adaptive control strategy is analyzed by Matlab/Simulink based simulation studies.
