Towards ON/OFF smart and low-cost optoelectronic biosensor systems

In this work, a novel experimental configuration to realize an ON/OFF biosensor system is presented. In particular, the biosensor chip is based on a Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) plastic optical fiber (POF) probe combined with a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for the bovine serum albumin (BSA) detection. The proposed experimental setup consists of an optoelectronic board simply connected to the SPR-POF-MIP sensor chip. This configuration allows to detect the presence of a substance of interest (BSA) at a fixed concentration. Moreover, the analyte concentration of interest can be changed by acting both on the optical biosensor chip and via the optoelectronic board sensitivity. The preliminary experimental results here presented demonstrate that a BSA concentration in the
${\mu}\mathbf{M}$
range can be detected in about two minutes.
