A Low-Profile Uniplanar Circularly Polarized Monopole Antenna for X-band Applications

This work presents a circularly polarized wideband coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed printed monopole antenna. An inverted L-shaped monopole radiator with addition of stubs and edge truncated CPW ground plane is proposed. The antenna possesses impedance bandwidth (IMBW) of 13.44% (7.49 – 8.57 GHz) w.r.t −10 dB reflection coefficient and axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) w.r.t 2 dB axial ratio completely coinciding with the IMBW of 13.44 % (7.49 – 8.57 GHz). It shows Left Hand Circular Polarization (LHCP), cross-polar discrimination (XPD) omnidirectional radiation pattern and gain of 3.79 dBi over the operating frequency band.
