Design, modelling of a levitation system for magnetic bearing

This paper highlights the design, analytical modelling and studies on a cylindrical levitation system for magnetic bearing applications. The full levitation system has been designed with spirit level accuracy. The paper also presents the mathematical force derivation in both the
$x$
and
$y$
directions to achieve a better system performance and stability. The velocity and position during sustained oscillation has also been observed. Magnetic Bearings provide a no contact levitation method for bearings and are advantageous over conventional mechanical bearings in the fact that the absence of contact frictional forces helps in greatly increasing the rotational speed and reducing mechanical losses for the running machines. Moreover, magnetic bearings are more efficient in suspending shafts of high-output motors running at high speeds as compared to mechanical bearings.
