Abstract:

Human augmentation is a relatively new field. It refers to physical improvements that can either increase or boost a person's productivity. It aids in restoring human bodily functions and mental capacities that were impeded in their development due to injury or biological limitations. It is projected that human augmentation research will continue, producing fresh discoveries that will shape the twenty-first century. Large intellectual and financial investments cater to helping bring accessibility along with availability to people in need. From haptic actuators that enable the blind to navigate their environment, to smart headphones that improve hearing for those who have hearing loss, to olfactory sensors that can taste and smell, to cerebral implants like the Neuralink that can use brain impulses to process commands from the user. In this paper, we highlight the need for more robust security measures to guard against hacking and illegal access to these systems. Its unpredictable nature may present potential hazards in the future that we are unable to foresee at this time. Additionally, a priority should be placed on minimizing the risks associated along with use of these contemporary technologies, specifically those with respect to data security.
