Developments of Rational Analytical Model for Direct-on-line Synchronous Reluctance Motor Designs

To meet the relatively severe operational environments in the metal industry, the induction motor is generally adopted to fulfill such driven purpose due to its rigid structure. However, for energy conservations and environmental concerns, some globally enforced regulations have now even complicated the design and cost for developing high efficiency induction motor. Because the direct-on-line synchronous reluctance motor (DOL-SynRM) has comparably robust structure with almost no rotor copper loss, it has become a potential alternative for accomplishing the high-efficiency operational objectives. For rationally investigating different DOL-SynRM designs that can implement on desired equipment, a convenient analytical model is provided. The line-start capabilities and operational performance impacts of different DOL-SynRM designs can all be thoroughly investigated. Supported by the results from both finite-element analyses and experimental measurements, appropriateness of the proposed model can thus be confirmed.
