Design of the Low Inertia Composite-disc type Magnetic Brake

This paper proposes a low inertia Composite-disc type Magnetic Brake (CMB), which is a double permanent magnet stator dis-single composite induction rotor disc structure, different from the conventional induction disc conductive metal surface layer, the induction disc material of this structure is high permeability metal surface layer and lightweight high permeability metal core layer. The induction disc is made of a high permeability metal surface layer and a lightweight high permeability metal core layer, which has the advantages of a wide braking speed range, high braking torque, and low inertia fast start. The working principle, eddy current path, and magnetic circuit model of the brake at different speeds are first analyzed, and then based on the Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC) method, the equivalent magnetic circuit models at low speed and high speed are established, the air gap magnetic field is solved, and the electromagnetic torque-speed equation is derived. Finally, JMAG finite element software was used to establish two three-dimensional models of composite disc brakes, namely the conventional composite disc brake and the low-inertia composite disc brake, and to compare and analyze the braking characteristics of the magnetic brake at different speeds. The results show that the theoretical values and the finite element values are in good agreement, and the structure designed in this paper has lower rotational inertia and better braking characteristics.
