Accurate Estimation of Rotating Rotor Position Based on Virtual Resistance with Cross-coupling Feedback

In this paper, accurate estimation method of rotating rotor position based on virtual resistance with cross-coupling component is proposed. Flying start based on virtual resistance has a good performance on suppressing inrush current. In speed and position estimation procedure, the assume that the load of systems is highly resistive by high value of virtual resistance. However, the maximum value in the stable region of the virtual resistance, which determines the initial value of the virtual resistance, can be set very low by a motor parameter. This assumption has error in low virtual resistance condition. This position error cause current oscillation in transition to sensorless control. To remove this oscillation, using the cross-coupling component, the error can be eliminated. Performance of proposed method was verified by PSIM simulation.
