Development of PFC Converter for Induction Heating System in Railway

This paper focuses on designing and testing a PFC converter for an induction heating system in a railway. In the railway, a heating device exists to prevent ice and snow at the railway turnout in winter. The PFC converter is adopted to operate the induction heating device. It works as a boost converter that converts AC to DC with a power factor of close to 1. The 800W prototype with peak voltage 311V input and peak voltage 350V output was built. The control performance of the boost PFC converter designed through PSIM simulation and experiment was verified.
