Abstract:
This paper presents the design and development of the 20 kW resistive load bank with control system for the performance testing of standby generators. It can be used to test by either manual or automatic which is controlled via the Arduino board. In addition, the power electronic equipment is applied to the control unit for fine adjustment of a step load test. The load bank testing procedure for evaluating capability of the standby generator is conducted according to NFPA 110 standard [1], including EIT 112002-59 national standard [2] (EIT: Engineering Institute of Thailand). The tests are performed according to industry standards and regulatory codes. The load is gradually increased. The results illustrate that the load bank set is capable of operating as designed and it is suitable for the generator load bank testing [3–5]. It has the features to use in accordance with the NFPA 110 and EIT 112002-59 standard requirements. This technique is also reasonable for the acceptance test of a standby generator or backup power source in commercial services.
