Corona Discharge Ion Wind Propulsion System Model Based on COMSOL

With the development of electric power technology, more and more vehicles are developing towards electric propulsion. Moreover, as aerospace is its frontier development field, electric propulsion technology also has excellent development advantages. In order to study the influence of the power source of electric propulsion on the effect of electric propulsion, we established a corona discharge ion wind propulsion system model based on COMSOL simulation by analogy with a two-dimensional wind tunnel model. In addition, we simplified the model and selected negative ions as a gas medium to conduct stable state simulation, and studied the relationship between voltage, the distance between electrode and airfoil, the radius of curvature of wire, and ionic wind thrust in order to provide a reference for subsequent research on optimization of electric propulsion system. Through the parameterization of the model, we find that the thrust increases gradually with the increase of voltage. As the horizontal distance between electrode and airfoil increases, the thrust decreases. With the increase in radius of curvature of the wire electrode, the thrust force increases gradually.
