The Attacker Model

The security solutions are measured by the resiliency they provide against an attacker or adversary executing different attacks exploiting the system's potential vulnerabilities. This chapter focuses on the attacker model, also known as the adversary model. It defines the six main types of security objectives: availability, integrity, non‐repudiation, confidentiality, authenticity and accountability. The seventh property is particularly important in vehicular networks, which is the revocation of the misbehaving node. The chapter also highlights the prominent security challenges that occupy the vehicular network security researcher's attention. These challenges may also be seen as the major security research axis. Then, the chapter explains the security attacker, their aims and means, their different types and their executed attacks. Lastly, it provides the specification of the used attacker model.
