Analytical Modeling Based on Wave and Permeance Method

Analytical modeling is the key approach for a better understanding of the electromagnetic phenomena in electrical machines. Wave and permeance is one of the simple methods that is utilized frequently in electric machine modeling. The method is based on air gap magnetic field modeling, which consists of a stator and rotor magnetic field. The stator and rotor magnetic field is also a product of the air gap permeance to the magneto‐motive force. This chapter introduces several frequency signatures for the air gap magnetic field, voltage, and vibration, which can be used in a frequency analysis of various types of faults in the salient pole synchronous generator. The stator current may provide an efficient non‐invasive approach to detect the fault. However, it is limited to the on‐load machine only. One of the major factors influencing the air gap length is the stator slot, as it produces a non‐uniform air gap.
