Impact of Switching to 20 KV to Reduce Losses in the Distribution System-Simulation with Power Factory Software

Energy losses in the distribution system represent the difference between received energy from the transmission system and the energy delivered to customers who are connected to the grid. The analysis of energy losses is a very complex issue as it is conditioned by many factors. Systematic planning and monitoring of losses, as well as their reduction are objectives and legal obligations of the distribution system. Given the high level of technical losses in the distribution system, additional investments should be planned in the future in order to reduce them to a satisfactory level. In this paper is shown the problem of determining energy losses and measures should be taken to reduce losses in the distribution system. To overcome these problems, energy losses in the grid, voltage drops and overloaded lines will be analyzed first. Using the Power Factory software, the current losses will be analyzed and through various simulations, the possibilities of reducing the losses in the distribution system have been examined. For the case study, is done the simulation of the most loaded 10 kV feeders in Fushë Kosova.
