Utilization of Food Waste and Wood Ash in Manufacturing 2-in-1 Fertilizer Through Aerobic Composting

One of our country's most pressing challenges has always been proper waste disposal. It is one of the most common human-caused environmental issue that is undoubtedly hard to manage. Most of the garbage like food waste always end up on roadsides, landfills and others; and as the human population increase, the pollution also increases. Based from City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Brgy. Mamatid generates a total of 15,591.43kg of biodegradable waste daily which is the highest contributor in Cabuyao City. These biodegradable components include food waste, such as high-nutrient fruits and vegetables, which may be found in the barangay's public marketplace, where many people allege that there is no waste management system. The goal of this research is to recycle Brgy. Mamatid's food waste which will be converted into a useful 2-in-1 organic fertilizer through aerobic composting and mixing with wood ash. To determine the optimal N-P-K amount for fertilizer, the researchers used a number of experimental methods which is factor to be considered in manufacturing fertilizer. In addition, the researchers undertake DIY testing to determine the effectiveness of wood ash in pest control.
