Abstract:

Bartering is more than a century-old form of exchanging goods or services among traders that does not involve money as a form of payment. This is no longer a common practice in commerce nowadays but that does not mean that this form of trading is obsolete. Some are still engaged into this form of trading and uses social media as platform for informal barter trade. Given this disconnect between current technology and the barter system has led to the creation of e-Barter, a mobile application that host online auction and trading as its main objective. Prototyping methodology was used during the development and in the process so specific objectives were met such as identifying the features of an electronic barter system and the appropriate platform for the development was identified. E-Barter was validated through user acceptance testing gaining a grand mean of 4.62 interpreted as Highly Acceptable in terms of functionality, usability, reliability, portability, and over-all acceptance of the 20 respondents coming from IT field and prospective users. Considering that the main reason why barter occurred long time ago is due to lack of money, e-Barter can be a support for them to address their needs or resolve the idea of utilizing the things they no longer need and exchange it for something useful without involving money in the transaction. Thus, help them save money for the things that they need to acquire.
