A Double-Sided Printed Crossed Dipole Antenna with Enhanced Impedance and FBR Performance for Circularly Polarized Applications

A broadband dipole antenna for circularly polarized (CP) applications is presented in this paper. The antenna consists of a crossed dipole, four parasitic patches, four metallic sidewalls and a metallic reflector. The crossed dipole radiator is fed by a 90° phase delay ring, generating CP radiation. Besides, the newly created CP mode is produced herein by using the parasitic patches. Hence, the CP bandwidth combining with the original CP mode is greatly expanded. Finally, the sidewall is introduced to enhance front-back ratio (FBR) performance. The proposed antenna is simulated, and the results indicate impendence band-width is 54.5% (1.28-2.24 GHz), and 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 35.3% (1.4-2.0 GHz). Furthermore, the proposed antenna achieves good FBR radiation performance over the en-tire frequency band, about 24 dB.
